Craft Your Own Herbal Incense: A Hands-On Workshop in Waco, TX

If you have ever wanted to explore herbs beyond teas and tinctures, this is your invitation.

A few times a year I host a hands-on herbal incense crafting workshop right here at Wild Thistle Herbs & Alchemy in Waco, Texas. You will learn to make your own cone-style incense using natural, plant-based ingredients, some sourced directly from the Wild Thistle teaching garden. This is more than a DIY project. It is an opportunity to connect with a tradition of incense making rooted in ritual, intention, and sensory delight.

Why Incense?

Herbal incense can be woven into everyday life in so many beautiful ways. As part of a daily or seasonal ritual, marking the shift from work to rest, honoring a new season, or simply setting the tone for quiet reflection. As a way to refresh and scent your space using plant-based ingredients that are gentle and free of synthetic fragrance. Or as a genuinely thoughtful handcrafted gift, especially when it smells this good.

Each blend you create can carry its own intention, whether grounding, uplifting, or simply something that makes you smile every time you light it.

What You Will Learn

This workshop walks you through the steps of crafting incense from scratch using a combination of dried herbs, resins, and natural binders. We explore the traditional uses of aromatic herbs and give you plenty of space to create blends that feel uniquely yours.

You will leave with your own handcrafted herbal incense, a working knowledge of common aromatic herbs and resins used in incense making, inspiration for weaving incense into your personal rituals or gift-giving, and a printed guide with complete instructions so you can keep making incense at home.

All supplies are included. Just bring your curiosity and maybe a friend or two.

About the Workshop

Classes are kept small and intentionally cozy so everyone has plenty of space and attention. All experience levels are welcome. No prior knowledge of herbs or incense making is needed at all.

Check the Events page for upcoming workshop dates and to reserve your spot. Spaces fill up quickly, so joining the newsletter is the best way to hear about new dates before they are widely announced.

If you are not local to Waco, many of the aromatic herbs and resins used in this workshop are available at the apothecary or through my Etsy shop, so you can explore incense making on your own at home.

I would love to see you at a future gathering.
