In this hands-on workshop, we'll explore the art of crafting herbal incense, a tradition that blends plant wisdom, aroma, and intention. You'll learn about several herbs chosen for their aromatic and energetic qualities that make each plant unique in incense work, along with simple techniques for making your own natural incense blends at home.
Some of the herbs we'll be working with come straight from the Wild Thistle Herbs & Alchemy teaching garden, giving you a chance to experience these plants from garden to blend.
Together, we'll cover: 🌿 A look at the history of incense and its traditional uses across cultures 🌿 An introduction to herbs traditionally used for incense 🌿 The aromatic and energetic properties that make each plant unique 🌿 How to create loose herbal incense and form simple incense cones 🌿 How to craft a simple herb bundle for burning at home 🌿 Tips for burning and using your incense at home
This is a make-and-take workshop, so each participant will leave with their own handcrafted incense and a handcrafted herb bundle to enjoy at home, along with a detailed handout with instructions for making these blends anytime you'd like.
In addition to class: 🍵 A selection of herbal tea will be available to sip and enjoy while you craft. 🌿 The Wild Thistle Herbs & Alchemy apothecary will be open for browsing. Discover a selection of handcrafted herbal goods, teas, and more.

Your Host
Michelle Spalding is a clinical herbalist and holistic health coach with over 1,800 hours of formal training in Western herbalism, vitalist philosophy, and holistic coaching. She is a lifelong plant lover and the founder of Wild Thistle Herbs and Alchemy in Waco, Texas.
Michelle brings a warm, down-to-earth approach to everything she teaches. She believes herbalism does not have to be complicated or intimidating. A cup of tea, a little plant knowledge, and a room full of curious people is honestly one of her favorite things.
Her workshops are beginner-friendly, hands-on, and grounded in the idea that plants are for everyone. Whether you leave with a new skill, a deeper curiosity, or simply a better afternoon than you expected, that is a good day.
